• Returns for his third year IndyCar competition with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. Aleshin tied his career-best finish of second last season at Pocono Raceway, leading 87 laps after starting from the pole.
• Made his debut in 2014 driving for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, but was injured in a crash during practice for the season-ending race in Fontana California. Raced sports cars in 2015 in the World Endurance Championship.
• Won the Formula Renault 3.5 Series title in 2010, besting future Formula One driver Daniel Riccardo for the championship in a season-long battle.
• Became the first Russian driver to win a major open-wheel race, finishing first at Monza in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.
