Dixon, Conway Lead Honda Qualifying at Barber

Fresh off a second-place finish at last weekends season-opening Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Target Chip Ganassi Racings Scott Dixon places third Saturday at Barber Motorsports Park to lead the Honda effort in IZOD IndyCar Series qualifying for Sundays Honda Grand Prix of Alabama.

Mike Conway made the second row of the starting field an all-Honda affair, as he hustled his A.J. Foyt Racing machine around the challenging 2.3-mile Barber circuit to post the fourth-quickest time in the final round of IndyCar "knockout" qualifying. Conways achievement marked the first "Fast Six" IndyCar qualifying appearance for the Foyt team since 2007.

Reigning Indy Lights champion Josef Newgarden led the rookie contingent with the fourth-quickest time of the day for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. Other Honda-powered drivers in the top ten today included fellow rookie Simon Pagenaud, three-time defending series champion Dario Franchitti and his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, Graham Rahal.

A late red flag during the second qualifying round, due to a spin by Ryan Hunter-Reay, prevented Graham Rahal and Simon Pagenaud from advancing to the final round, and they will start eighth and tenth, respectively. Sundays 90-lap Honda Grand Prix of Alabama is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on the NBC Sports Network.

Scott Dixon (#9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) qualified 3rd, equals his best previous IndyCar qualifying at Barber Motorsports Park; finished 2nd last week at the season-opening Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: "Qualifying today was a bit of an unknown for us. Due to the weather, we had very little running yesterday; and did not run very quickly when we were on track. Plus, last week there was a big difference between the [standard] black tires and the [option] reds, and we didnt know if that would hold true again today. All-in-all, this was a great performance from the team, especially considering where we started here on Friday. Im looking forward to Sundays race."
