Dixon Heads Honda Field on Fast Friday at Indianapolis

Scott Dixon, winner of the 2008 Indianapolis 500 and a two-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion, led the Honda-powered field Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on "Fast Friday", the final day of practice prior to qualifying for this year's 500-mile race.

Dixon's teammate, two-time Indy winner Dario Franchitti, posted the ninth-fastest time in his Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda as practice came to a close with Honda drivers leading the field on four of the seven practice days. Rookie Josef Newgarden posted the fastest speeds for Honda and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday; with Dixon topping the speed chart on Thursday.

Action at the speedway continues tomorrow with a morning practice session, followed by Pole Day qualifying to set the first 24 starting positions for the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500. Television coverage, beginning at 11 a.m. EDT, will be provided by the NBC Sports Network.

Scott Dixon (#9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) 5th fastest in practice: "It's nice to be fifth, but we're still not where we want to be. We'll do a couple of [simulated qualifying] runs in the morning [practice] and see how much more we can trim out the car. We'll have to try and come up with just a bit more for qualifying."
