Honda Off To Strong Start in Street Tur

Strong results from the Compass360 Racing duo of Ryan Eversley and Kyle Kimple have taken pair to the top of the Street Tuner drivers’ championship after two races in the 2013 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

Eversley and Kimple coupled a sixth-place finish last weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas with a strong third-place result in their Honda Civic Si at the Daytona season-opener to claim the early-season championship lead for themselves and Compass360 in the Street Tuner category.

“This track [the Circuit of the Americas], while quite impressive, isn’t quite right for the gearing of our Hondas,” Eversley said after the finish.  “We didn’t have quite enough for the Mazdas or the BMW, but this is still a great result for Kyle and me and for the Compass squad.  After a development year for the new Honda Civic Si last season, it’s gratifying to see all that work pay off and be back at the front where we belong.”

Corey Fergus and Owen Trinkler were the top Honda finishers at COTA, taking their RSR Motorsports Honda Civic Si to fifth-place in the ST division.  The pair finished 12th at Daytona, and these encouraging results have them fourth in the ST standings, just 10 points behind their fellow Honda drivers.

“We had a good race today, and considering the setback we had at Daytona [where a dropped wheel spacer during the mandatory pit-stop required a second stop to replace it], we came out of it okay,” said Trinkler. “We got some good points in these early races. Now we get to move on to tracks that are well-suited to the Honda, and our season can really get underway.”

The 11-race Continental Tire Touring Car Challenge resumes April 6 at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama.
