Franchitti Leads Honda Sweep in Toronto Practice

Defending race victor Dario Franchitti led a Honda-powered sweep of the top four positions in opening practice Friday for Sunday's Honda Indy Toronto. Franchitti topped the time sheets in both IZOD IndyCar Series practice sessions around the temporary street circuit laid out on the grounds of Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto.

Franchitti, who has won two of the last three races here - in 2009 and 2011 - finished the day just over a tenth of a second ahead of Simon Pagenaud's Schmidt Hamilton Racing Honda Dallara. Franchitti's teammate, Detroit race winner Scott Dixon, was third quickest in his Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, with Texas winner Justin Wilson rounding out the top four in his Honda-powered Dale Coyne Racing machine.

IZOD IndyCar Series activities at Exhibition Place in Toronto continue Saturday with final practice and "Fast Six" knockout qualifying. Sunday's 85-lap race starts at 12:30 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on ABC.

Dario Franchitti (#10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) quickest in Friday practice: "It was a good day, the car was good in both sessions, even though we tried different [chassis] setups in each. It's not perfect, but we're pretty happy. They've made some improvements to the circuit as well. Lakeshore drive has been repaved and now it is 'billiard table' smooth. But there are still lots of surface changes and bumps elsewhere on the circuit, so Toronto still has plenty of its 'character' intact. Toronto is one of my favorite stops on the [IndyCar] circuit. It's always good to come back to a place where you've had some success, but I'd love this city, regardless."
