Honda, RealTime Racing Drivers To Take On 100 Acre Wood Rally
• Peter Cunningham, Ryan Eversley to contest Rally America event
• Acura racers will run Honda Fit B-Spec Rally car
• Second round of the Rally America Championship
SANTA CLARITA, California (March 15, 2016) – Acura Motorsports racers Peter Cunningham and Ryan Eversley will take a “detour” from their regular duties as drivers of the RealTime Racing Acura TLX-GTs in the Pirelli World Challenge to take on a new challenge with a different vehicle: racing a Honda Fit B-Spec Rally car in this weekend’s 100 Acre Wood Rally in Missouri.
Rally racing is a globally popular and exciting form of motorsports that challenges driver skills and vehicle performance on tight, twisty courses through uneven rural public roads. Drivers at the top level of motorsports enjoy rally racing, as it refines driver skills and reactions, and is just a whole lot of fun.
Cunningham and Eversley are two of the best road-course drivers in the business, having multiple road racing wins over the years, and are eager to test their rally skills at the 100 Acre Wood, to be run on March 18th and 19th in Salem, MO. They will be paired in the Honda Fit B-Spec Rally car, which has won the B-Spec Class Championship for the last three years. The car will use B-Spec Fit Rally racing components provided by Honda Performance Development.
In addition to his many road racing successes, Cunningham also won the 1993 SCCA PRO Rally Production Championship, driving an Acura Integra GS-R, and received the John Woodner Cup, awarded to the highest-finishing two-wheel drive vehicle for the year. He will be the driver for the Honda Fit this weekend.
"When the guys at HPD first posed the question, I jumped at the chance!”, said Cunningham. “And to have my teammate telling me where to go is nothing new, but it should add to the excitement! I am really looking forward to getting back out there to slide around on some gravel."
Eversley, who is entering his second year as Cunningham’s TLX-GT teammate in the Pirelli World Challenge, is going to serve as navigator for the race. “I love working with the crew at HPD because they really let me be a racer! Being asked to compete in a Rally with Peter in the 100 Acre Wood event was a surprise, but I'm really excited. It's important to have a good navigator, so with his experience and my gift of gab, I'm sure we'll figure it out!"
“We’re pleased with the opportunity to see Peter and Ryan back in Rally, supported by our common sponsor, Honda Performance Development (HPD),” said Bill Fogg Sr., owner of Rally America, Inc. “Chatting with Peter via email, he mentioned that he last raced the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood at the age of 20. Plenty has changed since then, like the formation of the B-Spec class in Rally America. I hope he and Ryan have a good time racing the stages.”
“The HPD Fit B-Spec Rally kit has been race-proven during the past few years in the Rally America series,” said Jeff Barrow, Manager HPD Commercial Motorsports. “With three class championships, there’s no better test of the reliability and performance of our kit.”
